The customer's issue
The client has a large logistics distribution center. Goods arrive here daily, are stored until they are requested by their own customer and/or need to be shipped to an end user.
In this case, the client has already secured its distribution center well with an intrusion detection system and a camera observation system. However, the amount of cameras also provides a large amount of footage. Looking up and recording an event costs the security department an enormous amount of time. Examples can be given of sometimes 8 hours to 24 hours of work research to find out exactly what happened after an incident. The customer's question is whether this can be done better and how to set up this system in such a way that it is also set up according to rules of camera surveillance in the workplace.
The solution
MKB Secure's consultant will make an on-site appointment and find out what camera system is being used. How much recording equipment is present and what does this do to the video equipment. There is also checked whether the cameras are projected properly, since this is a system supplied and mounted by another security company, a different recommendation may be made. The customer's wishes are fully discussed, and it is concluded that the recording time can be extended. Sometimes they are just too late viewing images and they have already been overwritten.
Then the consultant makes a complete camera observation plan. This plan consists of the number of cameras, the purpose per camera and the calculation of the total stored video material.
In this case, we recommended switching to a Video Management System (VMS) This allows for various logical search functions. By applying this VMS, the retrieval of footage was reduced to a maximum of 1 hour per incident.
The VMS comes along with a new way of storing images, its capacity increased to 28 days.
A recommendation was also made to expand the camera observation system at two locations. This makes it possible to follow the complete trajectory of a package.
After our technicians have adapted the installation, all data of the existing installation are also fully known. Because of this, the customer receives full documentation after delivery such as: an image book with adjustment per camera, a camera register consisting of; type of camera, IP address of the cameras and the purpose of the cameras. This includes a description of why a camera observation system is used and the reason it records for 28 days.
This creates a camera observation system that is reliable for the customer's purpose and it is applied completely according to the guidelines of camera observation.
